Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior official said the attack left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
