Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
